Huh. According to Ask MetaFilter, it appears that by living in the middle of a big city we actually consume far fewer environmental resources than suburban or rural dwellers. “The density of human life enables energy efficiency, mass transit, recycling, and other benefits,” which means we have a smaller ecological footprint than we might have otherwise. (Mom still wants us to move back to Indiana. I’m grasping at straws here.)

We’ve been discussing a move from the Great Hoosier State for reasons various and sundry. Let me put it this way: there’s a whole Hell of a lot of truth in the words “you can’t go home again.”
I’m pushing for someplace like Atlanta, but Jay isn’t thrilled with the idea. I’ve also thought about Asheville, as it’s been touted to me by a close friend (and Chicago native) as the closest thing to perfect. *shrugs* We’ll see. With the way the economy is going — Bush announced yesterday that this will be a “hard summer” for “all of us” — we might not be able to go anywhere.
