Feeling the tech community love today, folks. ❤️

I spent the weekend setting up a pipeline to process images from an email address so I could start collecting swatches for my machine learning project data set. I rolled it out slowly with a post here and on the Australian Knitters Ravelry group, then expanded to one of the big 6 boards as well as a tweet. Today I am up to 200 images and my tweet has pretty much gone viral. I got replies from a couple ML researchers (including Janelle Shane, who does those wacky “what if a neural net named kittens/colours/romance novels?” blog posts!) pointing me to existing data sets I can use to augment my own. And I reached out to a couple AI experts within Amazon who have both offered amazingly helpful advice. How great is that?

Important Note

This site features content going all the way back to 2000. The posts you’ll read reflect my views and writing style at the time. While I have gone back to clean up a few of them, I think it’s important not to sanitise too much. This site is a record of who I am and how I’ve grown. Any blog post written years ago may not reflect who I am today, nor how I would write about the same topic today.
