Okay, this is gonna sound stupid, but can anybody e-mail me a recipe for Rice Krispie Treats? I’ve got a hankering for them but I’m not sure how to make them. I went to the store for a box of the cereal, but to my surprise I discovered that here it’s called “Rice Bubbles”. The only recipe on the box was for “Chocolate Crinkles”, which is apparently the preferred puffed rice treat of choice here in Australia. (Snook says they’re nasty. They consist of cereal, cocoa, coconut, sugar, and fat. Actually, though, that doesn’t sound that far off Rice Krispie Treats. He says, “They’re the kind of thing little kids eat lots of and end up all sticky and covered in chocolate and then they chuck because they ate eleven of them.”) Anyway, I don’t want some random recipe off the Internet; I want the official Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treat formula. If anybody’s got a box at home, I’d be ever so grateful if you’d pass it along.

  1. i don’t know if your comments allow hyperlinks, but I’ll try. The Kellogg’s site has the recipe here. If that doesn’t work I’ll send it along.

and if you run out of Rice Bubbles, you can make them with crushed potato chips — really! they’re better than you’d think… (something i tried for a snack food client in my former life in PR)

  3. Thanks Casey! I knew I should’ve just checked there. Now my biggest problem is finding enough marshmallows. They’re treated as candy here, so they only sell them in teeny-tiny bags. I’ll have to buy about twelve, I guess. But Rice Krispie Treats, here I come!

    And Stefanie – that’s totally gross. 🙂

  4. Just to let you know, I made the Treats and they turned out great! Now I need the version that includes peanut butter. I forgot how yummy those are…

  5. I just read the recipe for Chocolate Crinkles… My stomach turned just thinking about it! All that shortening?? They sound absolutely vile! 😀

  6. Hey Kris–if you’re feeling really adventurous, try these Martha Stewart confetti squares! They look like super-deluxe rice krispie treats, with a couple of other cereals folded in, just in case you weren’t gagging enough on the sugar. (I kid, because secretly I want to make these and devour them in one sitting…Froot Loops..mmm…)

  7. mom made rice krispie treats with special K once—i was a much bigger fan of the texture. funny how that’s a sweet treat i don’t think to make very often, but you can be sure i’ll be mixing up a batch once this lent nonsense is over! 🙂

  8. Mmm. I love these things (maybe not the potato chip ones) but it’s hard for me to ensure the marshmallows aren’t made with animal gelatin. Though I don’t know if it’s that hard to make your own marshmallow…Hmmm…

  9. I’m sure Max can provide the relevant Martha Stewart “make your own marshmallows” recipe… 🙂

  10. Heck, fellas (said in voice of Butters from South Park)–I’d be glad to!

Oh, wait–that was a joke…well, the recipe’s there anyway, though Lord knows they sound kinda gross, and when she made them on the show I didn’t think they looked too appealing.

  11. I knew you’d come through! 🙂

I heard she made Peeps recently. Is there anything this woman can’t do?
