Oh my God. You know that killer Maryland tornado? It went through Moire‘s front yard. She’s okay, but the entire town is flattened. Go read her account of huddling in the basement while the twister blew by her place. Very scary stuff. Like her, I lived in Indiana for years and never experienced anything like this.

  1. i almost snagged first post on your MeFi bit on the tornado.

    poor Moire. 🙁

  2. I didn’t know if it was worth posting there or not, but her entry was so good I figured it was the best way to get more people to see it. I sent her an e-mail too, but I haven’t heard from her yet.

  3. Thanks so much, you guys, for everything.

I’m incredibly thankful that we made it through the storm okay. It was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me. I really, really hope I never see another tornado again.

Kris — I just sent you an email. Hope you got it okay.

  4. Moire, I’m so sorry! I’ve driven through La Plata on 301 many times (hate hate hate the bridge while driving, esp at night). I just returned to Seattle tonight from a work/vacation trip to VA, and was speaking about the tragedy last night with my parents (we were in Eastern VA together on Sunday). My dad’s secretary is from La Plata; she’s feeling a similar loss as yours (although not the same fear as she now lives in NOVA). I grew up in that part of the country; tornadoes were never something that you worried about! I wish you strength and hope as you rebuild.
