BOOK IT! Oh man, I was waaaay into the Book It! program. (For non-Americans, it was a scheme to get kids reading by awarding them free Pizza Hut personal pan pizzas whenever they’d finished a certain number of books.) All of mine would’ve been redeemed at the Kendallville Pizza Hut. I can remember the big purple button I had, and the gold foil star stickers the waiter would add each time you came in. I might have to get one of those old-school T-shirts… (Link courtesy of miftik.)

We had BOOKIT! in primary school. I only remember because that’s when my love of Pizza Hut flared up, and I still have that big purple button with the gold stars on it.
My sister and I used to totally cheat and read stories out of magazines but count them as another “book” read. We got so many free pizzas! I loved that program.
I’m definitely going to have to get one of those. BOOK IT and the bug purple button seems, in retrospect, to be a central aspect of my elementary school life, as nerdy as that sounds. And of course, my parents forced me to set ridiculous goals at times and NEVER let me cheat…
Of course, my stomach has turned at the thought of Pizza Hut ever since.
Oooh! I loved Book It! It made my love of reading more worthwhile. 😉
I actually still have a Pizza Hut gift certificate from Book It! left over from elementary school.
Courtney still gets them. Of course she is to big for them now. She gives them to her little sister Cooper!
