This year, I didn’t mark #internationalwomensday2022 with any fancy events. Instead, I went to work. I had a meeting with my boss to agree on priorities for the next couple months. I had a call with my colleagues in Marketing to plan out how we’re going to engage with developers around the world in 2022. I had several one-on-ones with members of my team, trying to identify blockers and see where I could help them accomplish their goals. I led our team’s Monthly Business Review with our global lead and spent time brainstorming how we’re going to solve a really thorny problem.

Nothing against champagne 🍾 breakfasts, of course, but I think the best way I can help #breakthebias is to do the work, be a visible leader in this industry, and try to pave the way for others. Recently I was asked by my colleagues at AWS to offer a piece of advice in honor of the day. I immediately thought of something my friend Cath told me many years ago that really made a difference, and I hope you find it useful too!

Important Note

This site features content going all the way back to 2000. The posts you’ll read reflect my views and writing style at the time. While I have gone back to clean up a few of them, I think it’s important not to sanitise too much. This site is a record of who I am and how I’ve grown. Any blog post written years ago may not reflect who I am today, nor how I would write about the same topic today.
