Hm. I was all excited to plant a Three Sisters Garden (corn, beans, squash) til I read the bit about needing a minimum plot of 10’x10′ to ensure good corn pollination. Huh. I guess that’s why it pretty much sucked the last time I tried to grow it.

Important Note
This site features content going all the way back to 2000. The posts you’ll read reflect my views and writing style at the time. While I have gone back to clean up a few of them, I think it’s important not to sanitise too much. This site is a record of who I am and how I’ve grown. Any blog post written years ago may not reflect who I am today, nor how I would write about the same topic today.

hmm I don’t the plot needs to be that big
you just need to ensure that you plant it in a square and not a rectangle to maximise pollination. Or thats what my mum taught me.
We’ve grown corn successfully in a plot much smaller than that, and in a rectangle (3 plants x 5-6 plants). But definitely plant them closer together than you think you should. And it’s best eaten immediately after harvest – you’ll never eat store-bought corn again.
