Baby sweater is finished! Even managed to squeak out a matching hat with the remainder of the 3rd ball. The pattern is called “Peggy” from an old Patons Fairytale book. Lovely pattern, except for the lack of charts. (Oh, how I cursed. WHERE ARE MY COMPILABLE PATTERNS??) And of course, I modified it to be knitted in the round as much as possible. Just got tickets. The Sydney show is Nov 6… which means we’ll either be celebrating Kamala’s win or kicking off the end times. 😱
Public service announcement for Sydneysiders: We will have a total solar eclipse on this date (July 22) in four years. That means TODAY is the best day for checking what the view of the sun will be like from your house or preferred viewing place. (If you forget and do it next year, you’ll be off by a day due to Leap Day.) The body is done! I just need to pick up and knit the sleeves, sew on a couple buttons to the shoulder opening (babies have big heads), and give it a wash and block. ❤️🧶 #knitting
I fixed the mistake in my knitting from yesterday, and wrote a blog post with photos showing how I did it!
A few months back Rodd said to me: “I booked us in for an afternoon lecture at the library on outer space… because you’ll be retired and so that’s our life now.” 🧑🚀❤️ Thanks to the @cityofsydney Library and the @powerhousemuseum volunteers for the excellent session! We heard about Australian women astronomers, moon rocks, and learned all about the Saturn V rocket (with the help of a Lego model). #moonday 🚀🌔
Week 19: CLOSETS BABY! The Wall O’ Wardrobe is finally being installed in our bedroom (so. much. storage.), and the two office closets are complete too. (Those doors are a thing of beauty after the old horrible sliders.) The tiler was also back: he re-set the last row of kitchen tiles to meet level with the new wooden floor, and he finished off the bathroom tiles around the windows and the laundry sink. And lastly – we have a lovely new doorstep! ❤️🏠 #renovation
Started a new little #knitting project! Our neighbours had a baby, so I’m making them a little sweater with a patterned yoke from an old @knitpatons booklet using @morrisandsons wool. 🧶
We headed to the city this lovely afternoon to see @bellshakespeare’s production of King Lear. It was unadorned but beautiful. (I’ll always feel at home in a black box theatre. ❤️) Afterwards we walked around to Circular Quay for the Bastille Festival and battled the crowds for saucisson and cheese… 🇫🇷 🧀
Week 18: Cabinetry! All the wardrobes and drawers and shelves have arrived, and a team is onsite for installation. The roll-up screen door is also going in today. Skirting boards are in too. I also got a photo of the little curved ceiling bulkhead detail that will mirror the floating shelf below the TV. And check out the huge tile our builder scored for the front entry! #renovation 🏠
Went to the Broadway Shopping Center today and discovered @masterofmixes_au was giving away piña colada mix! 🥥🍍❤️
This morning we headed down to the @sydneyoperahouse to see @shakeandstir’s production of “James and the Giant Peach.” I really liked their take on it! They modernised a few things (Aunt Sponge wearing Crocs is inspired costume design) and excised a couple characters (vale Ladybug and Silkworm!), but they kept the weirder bits of Dahl’s story without sanding it down too much. I also thought the use of the rotating stage with animated projections and multiple trap doors was genius, and it’s probably the only way you could bring a story like this to life. We also visited the fat sea lion sunbathing on the steps outside, and we had lunch at @a.p.bread in the city. Lovely day. ❤️🍑

A lovely little video of the Breeders performing some of my favorite songs – mostly acoustically – among the redwoods in Big Sur.
Had coffee with my friend Kim, picked up my new library card (and books!), grabbed some chocolate babka for the Snook, collected my brand new Mac, and got in 6000+ steps all before 2pm… (if you want to know how retirement is going!). 😜❤️📚
