Happy birthday Ant! Miss you guys. 🤗🎂

I was talking to another expat last night who just got back from a visit to the States. She said one thing that really stood out to her was that, unlike in Australia, the high cost of housing wasn’t the common topic of conversation. Instead it was health insurance. She said she talked to people who were worried about losing their employer provided coverage, or who were stressing over high deductibles, or who were putting off going to the doctor until they got a job that had a better plan. She mentioned that she’s 16 weeks pregnant, and she’s so happy she’s going to have the baby here. Understandable.

After watching others, I had to try the VR game. Did you know they make hygienic masks for VR headsets? 😂 #indigitek

When I visited Uluru eight years ago with Rodd and Eileen, we didn’t know climbing was controversial. As we approached the rock though, our tour guide told us that the local people asked that we didn’t climb. He laid out their reasons and they all sounded reasonable. When tourists have heart attacks in their sacred place, it makes them feel terrible. I remember being grossed out at hearing how the waste – like, PEE – was damaging the fragile ecosystem on top. For us it was a no-brainer: we decided not to climb and instead had an amazing hike around the base. It felt a lot more respectful. I entirely support the decision of the locals to disallow climbing entirely.
