21 years ago, the quirk of a computer assigned Eileen Dunne to be my roommate in my first year at college. She was the first person I’d ever met from Boston. (I can still remember that first day, hearing Maureen Dunne’s accent as we moved in!) Eileen knew from day one that she was going to be a biologist. She was messy, she always lost her keys, and one time she nearly burned our dorm room down. Good times.
8 years ago Eileen came to visit Australia to celebrate finishing her PhD. We went to the Outback and rode camels and hiked around Uluru and slept in swags under the stars. She mentioned that afterwards she was going to visit some people in her field in Melbourne. Lo and behold, she got offered a job.
And now she lives here and travels all around Asia helping to research bacterial infections in children, and I couldn’t be prouder of her! And this past weekend we got to sail in the Whitsundays, snorkel a coral reef, and get chased by a dingo down a dirt road.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROOMATER! I LOVE YOU!
Wicked cool. Checking out the EpiCylinder at UNSW EpiCentre with recent YOW! speaker Daniel.
