Today’s accomplishment – navigating the world’s busiest transport hub (Shinjuku Station – 3.5M+ ppl per day) in the world’s biggest city (Tokyo – 37M+ ppl) all on my own to get to work. πŸ˜…πŸ†

Pride goeth before a fall. After my success navigating Shinjuku in the morning, I utterly failed to make it back to the hotel in the evening. Crap GPS due to skyscrapers and even more crap directions from Google Maps saw me wandering lost for 25 min. I finally gave up, parked myself in the nearest Starbucks, and called the Snook to come pick me up. He did. #humiliated #grateful #hesthebest

Current status: swaying over a volcano in Japan. πŸ˜³πŸŒ‹

Day trip to Hakone today involved 7 different means of transportation! One big fast train, one smaller one that climbed an 8% grade up the mountain, a funicular cable car, a rope skyway, a PIRATE SHIP, a bus ride, and of course, our own feet. πŸ˜…πŸšŠπŸšžπŸš πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸšŒ

We visited the Hakone Open-Air Museum and looked at Art. But I think you can tell the piece that he was most excited about… πŸ˜‚β€οΈ

Highlights from a perfect day at Moominvalley Park. We rode a very special train, saw fun attractions, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. There are two Moomin parks in the whole world, and now we’ve been to both of them. β€οΈβ˜€οΈπŸš†πŸŒ³ #moomin @moominofficial

Thank you to the AWS Community in Japan for inviting me to speak at the Community Leaders meetup today! (And to my wonderful translator Shoki Hayasaki, who helped me to communicate.) You are all incredibly inspiring to me! πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅β€οΈπŸ™Œ

Finally the tourist part begins! Tonight we headed to Shinjuku for a ramen 🍜 (β€œIs that bowl lined with meat?! OH HELLS YEAH.”) before heading out to Musashi-Koyama for a traditional onsen experience, getting naked and sitting in hot mineral spring baths. πŸ› 😳

If you want your own #awsdress sticker, you’ll have to come find me at the Developer Lounge Community Kiosk at the #AWSSummitTokyo today! Right under the ExpoA sign. πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅β€οΈπŸ‘—

Time for some excessive schmoopiness: I’ve done the math, and as of today I’ve been with Rodd Snook for 50.003% of my life. ❀️

What, doesn’t everyone get excited to take selfies with cloud infrastructure?! πŸ˜‚ I’m at the AWS Summit Tokyo checking out an AWS Outposts rack and all three generations of AWS Nitro system cards!

There are some very cool interactive demos at the AWS Summit Tokyo in the builders.flash EXPO area. I played Nyancat poker, simulated failures in Lego cloud architecture with Chaos Kitty, and posed like a Japanese TV superhero! πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅

Some of the many fun selfies and photos I captured today at the AWS Summit Tokyo! The highlights were definitely meeting AWS VP of CX & Tech Francessca Vasquez (finally!) and posing with Shun Yoshie, probably the coolest AWS Hero in the world. πŸ€˜πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅

He braved public transportation today and found, like, the last cherry blossom in Tokyo! Now celebrating with craft beers. 🌸🍻

The first 24hrs in Tokyo (Chiba, to be specific). Amazing toilets, sunshine, excellent food, beers at an izakaya, missing Germany, β€œSee, this is why the public transportation is intimidating!” πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸ˜‚β€οΈπŸ»

People in Germany never believed me when I told them that drivers are actively hostile (and dangerous) to cyclists in Australia. πŸ˜• Some days I really miss Munich.
