Knitting at the cricket. Given the colour of my project, I think I’ll cheer for the @sixersbbl today! 🧶🏏

Another service recommendation: If, like me, you have been boycotting Twitter since Phony Stark took over, I suggest you check out Openvibe. It gives you a single interface for Mastodon, Bluesky, and a few other networks. (Threads is partially supported and hopefully more to come.) You still have to have accounts on those services, but it gives you one place to post and read!

Anyone looking for a very comfortable couch? Happy to do a deal for a neighbour!

My education in classic Australian literature and film continues. Tonight we watched “Playing Beatie Bow,” which was nothing like what I expected. While I knew it involved time travel, I was not expecting magical Oirish people, a side quest in a brothel, and the identical great-grandson reveal at the end. (Favorite character was definitely Gibbie: “I’M IN DECLINE!”) At least this one didn’t bum me out like “My Brilliant Career.”

We walked over to Pyrmont to check out the lovely @cityofsydney Sydney Streets Festival. Stilt walkers, ribbon twirlers, live music, lots of activities for kids and families… A small bit of sunshine and happiness that I really needed this week. ❤️☀️

Easy Eyelet Yoke Sweater is past the sleeve division! I made the same modification as last time – immediately knitting the sleeve cuffs so I could keep the colours aligned with the body stripes. Now it’s just the long stockinette body slog… which I’ll be doing at the cricket tomorrow! 🧶 🏏

If, like me, you’ve decided to give Spotify the boot because of their insistence on platforming morons contributing to the downfall of society, I can recommend the app Playlisty for transferring your playlists and favourites elsewhere. A one-time fee of $5 and it works great.

Landscaping update: cement truck! By the end of the day, we’ll have garden stairs again.

How long would I have to move back to the US to establish residency in a state where my vote would actually matter? 😕

With only a slight addition, my shirt from the last election still applies. Please vote! #harriswalz2024 🌊

Anyone interested in a pair of tickets for Me First & The Gimme Gimmes in Sydney tomorrow night? I deliberately bought seated tickets so I wouldn’t have to stand all night, but they’ve moved the show to the Metro which is *only* standing. (It’s particularly galling that those of us who paid extra for seats now get “early access”… so we can stand even longer. WTF.)

    Kristine Howard shared a link.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag, Taki! ❤️

I’m going to be doing another AI rant in a couple weeks, this time online!

My first time at an AWS event as a civilian! This feels weird. 😂 #observabilityday

Thank you again to everyone who donated to dementia charities in October! Collectively we raised more than $2500 AUD, most of which went to Dementia Australia (as well as a few similar groups around the world). I really, really appreciate it. 🩷 The S3 Bucket Hat raffle has taken place using the Wheel of Destiny, and all 9 winners have been notified via email or FB Messenger. I’m sorry if your name didn’t come up! Perhaps I’ll have to think of another fun project to give away next year…

New (reclaimed) knitting project! I finished the Sugar Maple sweater (last photo) two years ago but rarely wore it. The style just didn’t suit me. So a couple weeks ago I unraveled the whole thing, winding it into a cake as I went. Then I used my swift to turn the ball into a hank that I then washed and dried to remove some of the kinks. I’ve now rewound into a cake and I’m knitting another Easy Eyelet Yoke Lite, a style that I know I will wear. The yarn is @hobbii_yarn Twister, a great choice for warm places like Sydney! 🧶 #knitting

Kicked off a special project today with my friends at @morrisandsons. Spent the afternoon learning from the cushion master, Ruth Morris, and using the industrial machine to make piping. Looking forward to the next lesson! ❤️

Kudos to my friend Jenna Price on her excellent article! I’m very much in the “Considered it because of the IRS but it’s too expensive and too much of a hassle” camp.

Completed sewing project! This is the #arkieshirt from @tessutifabrics sewn up in a lovely @libertyfabrics Tana Lawn I picked up in Tokyo earlier this year. (I’m actually kicking myself I didn’t get enough to make a matching pair of shorts.) While the Arkie has a relaxed fit, I think I can go down a size as this is fairly loose. #sewing 🧵🪡

Only 24hrs left to donate to a dementia-related charity and be in the running to win a Smart, Sensational, Sun-Protecting (S3) Bucket Hat! We’re at $1892 total, so I’m really hoping it’ll hit $2000. Please click this link for more info if you are able to contribute! ❤️

Smart, Sensational, Sun-Protecting (S3) Bucket Hats for Dementia Australia

Happy Halloween! We went to the @statelibrarynsw’s “Haunted Sydney” event to hear some creepy stories about ghosts, shipwrecks, and murders… 🎃👻
