A sunset walk on the breakwater of Heraklion… 🌅 🌊

A food tour of Crete! We visited the Cretan Dragon olive grove and dragonfruit farm, where we learned about Cretan agriculture and tasted some produce. Then we went to @titakiswines, where Andrea led us on a tour of the vineyard and a tasting of wine and raki. We finished with a lovely lunch. Perfect day! 🍷🫒🥗☀️

We have eaten well every day in Greece. Tonight was Cretan craft beer, salad with dried figs and local cheese, pork souvlaki, and a dip made of split peas. I’m also loving this tradition of restaurants giving us raki (distilled grape spirit) to finish off the meal!

The Acropolis! We entered via the South entrance near the museum to avoid the crowds. I was particularly excited to see the Theatre of Dionysus. 🎭 As we finally neared the top, the sky began to look ominous. It made for some very dramatic shots of the architecture! I felt incredibly fortunate to get to see one of the greatest achievements of mankind. And then, of course, the heavens opened and we (along with everybody else) got soaked. 🌧️😂 Ah well…

The wonders of ancient Athens! We visited Hadrian’s Library and then headed to the Agora, the center of public life. We checked out the reconstructed Stoa of Attalos, which is now a museum. Then we hiked over to the Temple of Hephaestus, one of the most well-preserved temples. After a fortifying lunch with dolmades, moussaka, and broad beans, we headed to the Acropolis Museum to see beautiful statues and carvings. (Well, the ones the British didn’t steal, anyway…) Then it was time to climb the hill!

Athens! The Parthenon! I have now eaten the Platonic ideal (literally) of tzatziki. Still drooling. Had some fun Greek craft beers too. ❤️🇬🇷

Made it! Time to visit a brand new country for both of us… 🇬🇷 ✈️

I had a wonderful time today catching up with old friends and new at the AWS Community Day DACH. @hoegertn even made me a special plaque as an honorary member of the Förderverein (Booster Club), which was awarded onstage by @osterjour! 😭❤️🇩🇪 Great job to all the organisers, volunteers, and speakers at the event today.
