Quick trip to the doctor to get another vaccination booster for a disease we thought we eradicated 50 years ago. Now I’m gonna have a dead arm all day, but I guess it’s a small price not to get polio on my vacation. 🙃 Vaccinate your children, people.

@melissa_loh Sydney is SOLD OUT 😭 If you find yourself in that store again, I’d love one!
@melissa_loh I made a shop assistant look it up. She’s like, here you go, yellow Tamagotchi. Me: But, uh, that’s not Gudetama, you see. It was a whole rigamarole. Eventually determined they’ve got zero in Sydney warehouse.
@melissa_loh Actually looks like they’re on https://t.co/ZWrmHrpPaH. I’ll order from there!
@melissa_loh Actually scratch that. Those look to be the Japanese versions, and I can’t read Japanese. 😂
@randomknits Whatdja do?
@randomknits That sounds like it’s probably a rational decision, and for the best.
@AlanMenant @spkjess_jess Awww, thanks. I’m not so much a professional engineer anymore, but I’m still here in the industry trying to lift other folks up!

Labelling jobs all done! Thanks to everyone who contributed. Now to see if I can do anything interesting with this… *cracks knuckles* https://t.co/ouiK2hy9pk
YAY, my order has shipped! Now to find time to get @FourRedShoes to autograph it… (@lucykbain – this is the book I was telling you about) https://t.co/i8lM29MZJY
@cczona Actually all of the labels are done at the moment, but I’ll add you in if/when I get a new batch!
@cczona Just started up a new simple classification job – please check your emails! 🙂

@melissa_loh OHMYGODDDDD
@melissa_loh Okay, there appears to be a Typo at Broadway Shopping Center. I’mma check this out. Thank you!! 🥚❤️
@parisba @The_McJones He looks like his Good Place character Michael being delighted by yet another silly human thing, like paper clips or Friends.
RT @shoe0nhead: which one are you https://t.co/2FWTJm8kah
TFW you’re working on a conference talk and you have to go back to the conference agenda to double-check what you said three months ago you’d be talking about.
Just set up another 200+ images to label. Any knitters want to volunteer an hour or so to help? Just need a web browser and the ability to distinguish between basic stitches! https://t.co/uW5ZY9u9Vu
Ah, the futility of trying to teach a computer to distinguish between moss and seed stitch, when you yourself get them confused constantly.
@The_McJones I’ve got around 600 images. One of the ML geniuses at work told me that should be plenty, as long as I twiddle with the colours and rotate them to augment.
@The_McJones Around 400 emailed by people, and around 200 that I scraped from various places online.
@The_McJones I’m fortunate in that I can throw lots of resources at it in the account they give me to learn stuff for work. 🙂 I figured I’d try different things. First go is just using the built in stuff in SageMaker.
@The_McJones I have very low hopes of actually achieving meaningful results. Mostly this is just an excuse for me to learn a bit more about ML and what it involves.
@KnitMeAThneed Oh thank you! Can you please DM me your email address and I’ll add you?
If folks are curious, this is what the interface for labelling looks like in Amazon SageMaker Ground Truth. https://t.co/fyvSzaYhw7
Kinda regretting that I didn’t put “Goddamn crochet” in there as a label.
@KnitMeAThneed Oh you’ll see ’em…
@JulieKalitis I’m using this definition to separate them: https://t.co/Y1paoKFYL7
@woollenwords That would be lovely! Yes please, DM me your email address.
@KnitMeAThneed Yeah, a few folks seem to have accidentally attached the wrong images to their emails. 😂 Part of the joys of crowdsourcing data!
@KnitMeAThneed Did you get the Halloween candy yet?
The dirty secret of machine learning is that first you have to enlist a whole task force of folks to spend time clicking buttons. Current labelling job stats… https://t.co/7MblcSulKX
@ceels Yes please! Please DM me your email address and I’ll add you.
@CynthiaMTeague Awesome! Please DM me your email address and I’ll add you.
@cczona In my case it’s simply that my brain doesn’t grok crochet naturally. Every time I use it I have to relearn it entirely. I like linear sequential things, and cricket is so freeform and 3-D it just eludes me.
@cczona DM me your email address and I’ll add you!
@MerryGlennie Please DM me your email address and I’ll add you!
@JasonUmiker That’s the idea! I was listening to Eminem to get pumped before @PubConf a few weeks back so @CoreyGinnivan quickly made that for me. And it worked because I WON.
@JasonUmiker @PubConf @CoreyGinnivan No knitting content that night though – was all Roald Dahl and websites and crazed startup founders and AI.

I visited Uluru with Eileen and Rodd ten years ago. As we neared it, our guide patiently explained that the local people asked us not to climb, and though he couldn’t stop us from doing so, he really urged us to consider their views. This is a sacred place, and people have died making the climb. The fragile ecosystem on top has been ruined by humans literally pissing on it. It was an easy decision for us, and we instead spent a couple memorable hours walking all the way around it. It’s a beautiful place. I especially loved getting to see the sides of it you don’t see on the postcards.
Really – if your host asks you not to do something, it’s simple politeness not to do it.
