  • Embroidered SMS

An artist in England is doing a new series where she cross stitches every text message sent to her. Including stupid ones sent by Pete Doherty. Hey, anything that’ll get the “kids” into embroidery, I guess!

  • WTC Cross Stitch

This morning I helped an Australian customer in the shop who wanted to have a photograph turned into a cross stitch. The photograph was of the World Trade Center. (Not smoking or anything – thank GOD – apparently they’d taken it on vacation the year before.) I was a little stunned at first… but then I remembered that we have and sell tapestries with the Titanic on them. Give it another twenty years and nobody will bat an eye, I guess. Still, who hangs something like that in their living room?

I wonder if they call them freedom knots?

  • Babies Suck

I made my sister another present for Penn. It’s a baby bib! The design came from subversive cross stitch, and the bib itself is from DMC. I managed to finish it in just one day, despite not being the world’s greatest cross stitcher. (Yeah, I know it’s not quite centered properly.) And don’t worry; I already floated the idea to her on the phone and she loved the sentiment. New mothers are all about sarcasm, I guess.

  • NIPPLES

I’d just like to state that I had nothing – NOTHING! – to do with the nipples blatantly visible in the new Tapestry Craft window display. Thank you.

    Boobies

Updated: I took a picture. See? Nips. Psychedelic pink nips.

  • Chicken Bib

Chicken BibMore craftiness… I just shipped a package of homemade Christmas presents off to Mom today, including this bib I knitted for my baby brother. Yes, those are chickens embroidered on the front. (Apparently Mom collects them now, so I’m trying to indulge her.) It turned out a bit… longer than I envisioned, but the basic shape is there. Cute, huh? After I practice up on a few more scarves, I think I’ll try my hand at a sweater.
