I forgot to mention that I finally got my new running shoes yesterday. These are the ones I got. As expected, I didn’t get the cool scientific high-tech fitting they show in the commercials, but my salesperson was reasonably knowledgeable and these seemed like a good choice within my budget. I’m off to the gym to try ’em out!

nice! nothing like some new exercise gear to inspire a trip to the gym. i really like asics. that seems like a very good price too!
Well, they were about $150 AU, but that wasn’t bad considering some of the Nikes were over $200… Unfortunately I didn’t end up going to the gym. I got a bit of a sunburn out in the city yesterday and it kinda left me feeling crappy and dehydrated. I swear I’m going in the morning though… 🙂
Nice shoes, one of my favorite brands! There’s no reason to shell out the extra cash for Nike (admittedly, I’ve always been prejudiced against them because they’re cut too narrow for my feet…)
Stylin’! Though I have to say that Asics do a number on my feet (I guess they’re just not made for the wide pods I walk around on). They’re like those “cruel shoes” from that old Steve Martin routine. I’m a Saucony guy myself. Still, as long as the shoes look cool (and yours do), that’s what’s important. (Guess what? I’m totally not joking–isn’t that sad?)
I don’t know if i’m a “Nike Girl” per se but i really have dug the pair of Air Imaras that are almost in need of replacing.
The Mister tells me that certain brands are good for certain kinds of runners and body types—is there any truth to that? for instance he says that New Balance is good for heavier folks, which he’s not and should really just shut up about right now. 😉
what i really need to do is head down the street to Running, etc. (which is right next to a health food store—my neighborhood couldn’t be more convenient) and have them evaluate my running and prescribe me some new kicks.
Very nice. Snowpowder blue; very chic. 🙂 Looks like your new shoes should help with the pronation as well as looking cool.
I wore asics all through college (correct pronounciation is “ass-kicks”), but now I’m wearing Nikes. Most companies change their shoe models faster than I buy new shoes, so I was always changing brands, but Nike has kept my style the same for 3 years now, which is nice. I guess now that they’re under the spotlight, they’re better than the other shoes companies about keeping their sweatshops on the up and up. 😉
See, that’s what I wanted: a running evaluation. I have no idea where to go for that though. I figured the big city sporting goods stores would do it, but they didn’t. Maybe I should look for a more strictly “running” oriented place in the future.
My last pair were Asics, which I guess is why he recommended these to me. I don’t have much preference either way. I wasn’t sure about the powder blue at first, but they’ve grown on me. As long as they help with the aches and pains, I’ll be happy.
Oh, that price was in AUS$. I should have realised! I bought my last pair of running shoes in Oz for about 200 bucks. Arg.
