The Coraline discussion seems rather stagnant, but I’m not too surprised. It’s just a good story, you know? Not a lot to discuss there. We need to get started on the next book though. We’re supposed to be reading Will Self’s Great Apes, but I’m going to suggest we skip over it to the next one. The reason being, I looked for Apes at the library today and as far as I can tell, it isn’t available at all in Australia. So unless there are any objections, I think we should move on to Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey.

(Unless, of course, you’re all tired of the project by now. Are you? Now I’m worried. Should we have another round of book suggestions? Maybe we should scrap the idea of a scheduled list and have monthly votes to pick? Gimme some feedback here, please.)

    “i hate books.”

  2. Whatever is fine with me. If you wanna pick Kushiel’s Dart for the next one, I’m game. I’ve got the paperback sitting at the house, waiting to be read again. I’m enjoying the book group a great deal, because I rarely get to discuss books with anyone. I’m pretty much the only one I know that reads. 😉

  3. I’m enjoying the project, as long as the books are in paperback and available at the library. (I’m tired of buying books, esp hardcovers.)

It might be worth revisiting the list since the participants might not be the same as the group who originally selected the books, but I have no strong feelings about that.

I’m looking forward to The Red Tent.

  4. Goodie goodie…I have both Kushiel’s Dart and Kushiel’s Chosen and I can actually participate in this discussion! (The reason I haven’t is because I didn’t like the previous books and I can’t talk about something I hate because it all comes out as nonsense, y’know?)

  5. I’m on board! It’s been nice reading titles that I might not get into otherwise. It would be nice to avoid hardbacks that are on every critic’s/club’s current hot list, which makes them impossible to find at libraries thus expensive.

  6. Okay, let’s go on to the Carey then. I’ve checked and it seems to be in paperback here, so I should be good to go soon. Sound good for everybody else?

  7. I’ll play, provided I can get a hold of the book. :o)

aack! I keep reading the books, and even reading the comments, but never seem to have the time to actually write anything… and I really wanted to do Lovely Bones as well… I’ll be home for whole week of Thanksgiving though, so will definitely have time this time to contribute (in between baking pies & stuffing my face…) Bring on Carey!

  9. See, I’m starting to think that the “discussion” part of it maybe isn’t so important. It sounds like most of us want to read, but we just lack the discipline. So maybe the idea of everybody reading the same thing is the impetus that we need. And as I think we’re discovering, some books are open to debate and some aren’t. So don’t feel too bad about missing the discussions, Stefanie. I’m just glad you’re playing along!

(And I’m going to envy you on Thanksgiving. I’ve promised to host a “real American dinner” for a bunch of Aussies, which is probably going to be more work than I realize. Oh, and I’ll be roasting a turkey in 80 degree weather. I could really go for some crisp Fall wind, football on TV, and the Macy’s Day Parade. Instead I’ll be watching it on the Internet yet again…)
