Trivia Update: The Snook and I headed back to Kelly’s, our old regular trivia pub, and managed to score second place all by ourselves! (Our celebrations were curtailed by the fact that the winning team was captained by an overweight geek in an “All Your Base Are Belong to Us” t-shirt. It was like losing to the Comic Book Guy. Very mortifying.) Your questions for the night:
- Name the eight countries of the world with one word names (in English) that start with the letter “I”.
- Name the six Jane Austen novels that have been turned into movies.
- Which movie did Shirley Maclaine win a Best Actress Oscar for in 1983, and who won Best Supporting Actor that year for the same film?
- Which city in the world has the most taxicabs?
As you might imagine, I rocked the Jane Austen one. (I’m working my way through her complete works right now.)

umm… israel, iraq, india, iran, indonesia, ireland, italy, umm… grr! I think that’s the closest I’ve ever come to answering one of your questions completely! And I’m sure as soon as I hear number 8 I’ll groan…
Persuasion, Mansfield Park, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and …
for the cabs one, i would say mexico city…all of those old vw bugs. it’s definitely got more than any city i’ve ever been to!
country – iceland?
Just the other day, I saw that Northanger Abbey was made into a movie (obviously it wasn’t very popular or well advertised). So that’s #6. The real question is which is the best adaptation. I really loved Mansfield Park and Sense & Sensibility, but I doubt I could find an Austen fan who liked them better than P&P.
Terms of Endearment; Jack Nickolson
LA (such a sprawling city)
Sorry for the lack of separation, there. 🙂 I could be wrong, by the way, on the movie.
Woo! You guys rock. Those are indeed all the countries and all the Jane Austen movies. Tricia was correct on her first two. And the taxicabs was indeed Mexico City! Well done.
(And I LOVE Mansfield Park, Parker! I had a long flight once from Singapore to London and I watched it THREE TIMES.)
i know that northanger abbey was a BBC production in the seventies at last, because the catherine in it was WOEFUL. no spunk to her at all.
