Are you a Simpsons fan? Are you dating one?
My Snookums is a big fan of the show, and I reeeeally wanted to get him a “I Choo-Choo-Choose You” card for Valentine’s Day. (Lisa gave one to Ralph Wiggum in a memorable episode.) Unfortunately I couldn’t find one anywhere on the Net, let alone a frame grab so I could draw my own. Frustrated, I posted a plea for help on alt.tv.simpsons. Lo and behold, somebody came through! So I took the frame, enlarged it, straightened it out, and set to work cleaning it up. I even removed Ralph’s chubby fingers. Click on the link to see the result! It fits on a normal sheet of paper, and I figured I’d have Kinko’s print it on a big sheet of nice stock so I could fold it over into a card. Feel free to print it out and give it to your honey, but if you post it on your site please toss a link back my way.IMPORTANT NOTICE! Despite my asking them not to, people have repeatedly been stealing my bandwidth and placing this image directly on their sites. Let me explain. I have no problem whatsoever with you making a link like this: <a href=”https://web-goddess.org/archive.php/postID/388″>. In fact, thanks for that! That’s great. I also have no problem with you right-clicking on the image, saving it to your hard drive, uploading it to your own web space, and embedding it in your web page. Fine with me. What I do have a problem with is this: <img src=”https://web-goddess.org/img/blog/valentine1.jpg”>. When you do that, I have to pay for the extra bandwidth. This is theft. I’m sorry to be so harsh, but this is the third time I’ve asked people to stop and they’re still doing it. I’ve changed the name of the image several times now and it doesn’t appear to dissuade them. If it doesn’t stop, I’ll seriously consider taking the image down permanently.
Geez, you try and do something nice for the Internet…
FURTHER UPDATE: People are still being assholes. The big image is now being provided as a zip file, which means they can’t source it directly. You’re still welcome to use it on your site as long as you save it to your own server. Thanks!
Matt

February 15, 2003 — 4:10 am
OH MY GOD. I was looking for the same exact thing you were this year, planning on cleaning it up as best I could. I just started a relationship this week with a really terrific guy, who I seduced successfully with spot-on Ralph imitations, (this being amongst our favorite, what with Black Friday coming up and all). I feel like I’m in a Peanuts episode and I’ve just found out that the Great Pumpkin exists, only in the form of a Valentine’s Day web heroine. And I’ve directed my other friend to your site, since he is having the worst V. Day in years. A Ralph Wiggum card did the trick, and made him laugh out loud for the first time in days. (FOX is extremely stupid for not marketing this. I absolutely agree. But finding it this way makes it special and cool.)
Had it backstage at the show I’m in and EVERYONE wanted to know where I got it. Ralph is an unofficial mascot for us, and we try to work in “Tastes like burning” anywhere we can.
Web Goddess, you absolutely rock for posting this so selflessly for others to download, and probably saved a bunch of Valentine’s Days for many, many people. You’ve probably saved someone’s life, who knows.
If there is any cosmic justice, your positive Valentine’s Day karma will keep you happy & loved for years and years.
Can’t thank you enough. Well played.
Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Actually they’re linking the thumbnail as often as they link the big one, so even if I zipped the big one they’d still do it. I’ve been doing referer checking for some time now (which is how I know who’s doing it). For most folks, I substitute in an “I steal images. I’m an ASSHOLE.” gif, but if there’s contact information I try to get them to take it down.

Anthony – I’m guessing you’re on Windows… Just click on the thumbnail image up above. You’ll get a popup asking you what you want to do with the file. Click the “Save to disk” option and then select somewhere on your hard drive to save it (the desktop is easiest). Once it’s done downloading, minimize your browser and go find the file you just downloaded. If you double-click on it, it should unzip and you’ll have a jpeg that you can open up and print. (Sorry it’s so complicated, but when I made it easy people kept stealing it.)

February 12, 2009 — 9:32 am
“Justin”, this Valentine has been up on the net for EIGHT YEARS and no one has complained about a copyright violation. There are also alternate versions available all over the place. I don’t think the Simpsons artists are too worried about it.
