Twilight versus Lost Boys

Twilight versus Lost Boys
This past Friday, one of the arguments that the girls were giving me for Twilight‘s suckitude was that “Lost Boys was so much better!” Really? Because all I remember was Kiefer dangling from a bridge with his lame vampire gang, Dianne Wiest being super stupid and annoying, Corey Feldman having a ridiculous accent, that weird song with the chanting children, and that scene where Corey Haim is singing in the bathtub and his dog saves him from being eaten by a scenery-chewing Jason Patric. And those are hardly Cinematic Highlights For the Ages. Anyway, we may have to put it to the test considering that Popcorn Taxi is screening Lost Boys with a Corey Feldman Q&A on January 21st. (Good grief. Do you realize that movie is 21-YEARS-OLD??)

  1. I feel old now. Very, very old. I felt old when I realized Space Camp came out in 86, but having watched Lost Boys so many times, it just stings a little more.

  2. the words “Kiefer” and “lame” do not belong in the same sentence!! haha
also it’s got Echo & the Bunnymen doing a Doors cover on the soundtrack – case closed!

  3. I think I loved the Lost Boys for it’s complete fantasy, seaside town craziness, mixed with the music, costumes and very edibe actors (though the acting was pure baltic pine)… and the B move gore. I got the Special edition DVD from the library a few months back, and loved it plus the special feature interviews were funny.

    21 years old. I really am old…

  4. The Lost Boys…so good! I loved Kiefer with his scary blonde mullet. I think that in the very last episode of 24, he should turn into a vampire.

  5. My hip spontaneously broke at reading that last sentence.

Gotta go take my Boniva… 🙁

  6. Isn’t Dianne Wiest always super stupid and annoying? (My kryptonite, I think).

Am VERY old but have never seen Lost Boys.

  7. She IS! She’s definitely on my list of Actors Who Irk. Not quite at Nemesis or Kryptonite status though. (Even I’ll admit she was perfect in Beetlejuice.)

  8. In the annoying dept., I’ll take Dianne Wiest over Jennifer Jason Leigh any day of the week.

Didn’t see Twilight, but I’ll go Lost Boys just because I’m an oldster. (And it had Edward Herrmann and Mr. Merlin.)

But my favorite B-vampire movie of that era (Near Dark doesn’t count) is and remains Fright Night, with Chris Sarandon, Roddy MacDowell, William Ragsdale, and a pre-Married-with-Children Amanda Bearse. I watched that movie constantly on VHS. “Brewster, you’re so cool!”
