I just started my second ever Metafilter thread. It’s about the Big Things that serve as tourist attractions here in Oz: the Big Banana, the Big Pineapple, and the Big Prawn (to name just a few). I just told the Snook that I want to visit them all. 🙂

my parents live in a small country town in western australia caled wagin, which is the home of the big sheep! a big, weather-beaten fibreglass sheep that serves to remind inhabitants and visitors alike that wagin is indeed the home of WOOLARAMA, the annual festival of… you guessed it, wool! and you can’t make fun of this, because you get threatened with exile. i speak from experience.
here is a link to a not very good picture… who would have thought it was the biggest ram in the southern hemisphere?
I HTMLed up the link for ya, orangecat. And hey, your Big Ram looks a lot like the Big Merino! (Minus the horns, of course.)
I live near the big prawn. You used to be able to look out of it’s eyes. It rises out of the cane fields of Ballina and can be a happy sight if you have forgotten to get petrol in Grafton (there are no petrol stations opened between these two towns at night though you are on our highway no1.)
dear god, kris! maybe they came from the same mother! 🙂
I was going to make a joke about giant dags (since I just learned that word), but I’ll just let you imagine that one… 🙂
Wonder if this is still operating..
Just went to Wagin today, and my the Giant Ram is HUGE! wet windy wild, winter, and the contryside looking fabulous, though I still wonder why the sheep get shorn mid winter..only for the Spring market, not for their own comfort!
