New Poll: How will you be celebrating Halloween this year? I’m feeling rather sad since it’s not really that big of a deal in Australia. They don’t even trick-or-treat! Apparently adults might have Halloween parties, but it’s pretty strictly limited to “scary” costumes (which takes a lot of the fun out of it, I think). I haven’t seen a *single* Halloween-themed item in the grocery store. No candy, no decorations, no pumpkins even! I might have to carve a squash just to satisfy my festive urge.

  1. i always buy bags of lollies just in case some kids turn up – but they never do. but i still buy them, just in case… lots of chocolate for me afterwards though!
i’ll probably just be having a scary dvd night with some friends, watching some of the more scarier movies. like “showgirls” and “wild wild west” ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Hmm, do you think any might then? I know in the UK we got surprised last year by some parents. I guess it’s a new thing that’s spreading. I didn’t know if it’d reached here yet. Maybe I should get some lollies too… just in case. ๐Ÿ™‚

i’ll have to send you pics of the pumpkins i carved for the office last night – one of my boss as a pirate! and one of our logo with a bat and a ghost. they’re pretty sweet. they’re going to rot soon, though, so i better get rockin’ on that photo thing…

  4. Those are sweet! If anybody else wants to see ’em, I’ve uploaded a pic here (if that’s okay with you, Sis). Although when I showed the Snook, he dismissed them with: “Eh, I saw that on Oprah!” ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Halloween is a great holiday.

I bought candy for trick-or-treaters, too, but doubt that I’ll see many.

Jeff and I have very cool carving plans for this weekend. I won’t give it away, since we’ll have to post photos of the finished product, but I will say that our subject has been recently featured in a summer blockbuster and will make more appearances in 2 upcoming fantasy flicks. Last year we made a pumpkin totem pole, with three carvings stacked on top of one another, looking at each other. It was pretty nifty. We have discovered that tree lights on a timer work great for lighting the pumpkins.

I’ll also dress up on the 31st at the office; we’re having a costume contest. I’m not sure what the costume will be yet.

Amy, your pumpkins look great! I’m very impressed.

I plan on carving a couple of pumpkins, and that’s about it. We don’t really live in a neighborhood, so there aren’t any kidlings coming to our door begging for candy. A pity. When we lived in the trailer park, we’d get a TON of kids.

Only the holidays make me miss being a small child. I’d love to go trick-or-treating again, even if it meant revisiting a single day of my miserable middle school experience.
