I got marbles! After all the tramping about yesterday, I ended up finding them at “Eastern Flair”, the weird-ass patchouli-smellin’ hippie store a few blocks from our house (where I got the Snook’s zen garden a few months back). I couldn’t believe it. Now I’m ready to make some magnets!
(I’m not going to use magazine pictures. I’ve got a different plan, a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel. I’ll let you know how it turns out.)

Hmm. Maybe my plan isn’t so cunning after all. My idea was to use photographs, which I’d scan in, resize, and print out. I read a comment on Not Martha though that said someone else had tried it and the ink had run. She printed on a bubble jet, though, which I think has water soluble ink. I think I’m going to have my images printed at the Xerox place around the corner on a color laser printer and see if that works. I’ll let you know how it goes…

I think someone else suggested using a color laser printer and/or copier — makes sense, now that I think about it! D’oh! I’m also going to try out printing my own pics with my color Tektronix, which uses solid ink (wax toner, like crayons). I’ll be sure to mention how that goes, too, in case anyone else has the idea to use stuff printed with solid ink technology.

Sticking a layer of clear contact paper over inkjet print-outs will keep them from running. (A laminating machine would be even better, if you’re lucky enough to have one.)

You don’t think the vinyl or plastic lamination would cause the silicone sealer to fail?

Nah, that sealer should stick to just about anything… not having tried it myself, though, I can’t vouch for the effectiveness.
