I’m too happy to write in a clever way, so I’ll just spell it out: I GOT A JOB! I had the interview this morning. (I didn’t mention it for fear I’d jinx it.) I start next Tuesday! That’s right, after 431 days I will finally be returning to the 9-5 grind. Seriously, you guys, this is a major boost to my self-esteem. Now the sun is shining and so am I. Go me. πŸ™‚

  1. congratulations! that’s great news. what sort of stuff will you be doing?

think you’ll still have some time to hang out one afternoon when i’m in sydney, now you’re a working woman again? :o)

  2. You’ll be here around New Year’s, right? We’ll probably be off then (I hope).

It’s another web developer job, but it looks like I’ll be doing just the stuff I like: design, layout, HTML, and writing content. Hmm, I’m wondering if I should name the company. I might hold off til I check with them on that. For now, I’ll just say that it’s NOT a web company; it’s a recognized name in the world of printers. They’re getting into “e-business” though, and that’s where I come in. I think a lot of what I do will be aimed at kids, like coming up with games and projects for them to print out. (This is where I think my Dahl site was a major hiring factor. Not to mention the fact that my interviewer/boss is currently reading Dahl’s memoir “Boy”.) πŸ™‚

  3. hey that’s fantastic! congrats! welcome to the world of sydney web developers πŸ˜›

  4. Congrats! I personally know how frustrating it can be being out of work, but I also know how bloody great it is to get back in it. Well done! πŸ™‚

  5. the job sounds very well suited to your skills! it must be a nice feeling to know that your labour of love in creating the dahl site has paid off too!

mark and i will be in sydney on dec 30th (my mum’s birthday), dec 31st, jan 1st and heading back to canberra on the 2nd. we could do something during the day on the 31st, or anytime on the 1st (unless you think you’ll be too hungover!), or lunch on the 2nd? there will probably be other times that would work too…let me know when would be good for you guys.

  6. Congratulations! I was unemployed for about 5 months, and know how depressing that can be. Welcome back to the world of 9-5! (if anyone really works 9-5 these days…)

  7. Congratulations! Hooray!

  8. Sounds great! I won’t mention my guess re the company (the whole jinx thing), but if it’s who I think it is, I’ve been contracting with them for 16+ months & they have a great culture.

  9. Great news. Congratulations.

  10. Yay! Good for you!

  11. Thanks for all the kind words. I’m actually getting a little nervous about it. I also used it as a convenient excuse to go buy myself some new “work clothes”. πŸ™‚
