Do you like girly drinks? Are fruity cocktails too feminine for your manly self? While I’ve never had a Sex on the Beach in my life, I confess that I find martinis and bourbons just a tad too strong for me. Lately I’ve been ordering Long Island Iced Teas, which at least aren’t fluorescent colored.

i love girly drinks. cosmopolitans and margaritas are favourites. i’m pretty partial to gin and tonic too, but that’s not really so girly. gin and slimline tonic has the benefit of being kinder on the calories.
I like gin and diet tonic too. I got into an argument with the clerk in our local bottle shop the other night because he refused to believe that diet tonic existed. I ended up marching an extra six blocks to the grocery store, buying some, and marching back so I could show it to him. Yet another example of Aussies thinking I’m just a clueless American…
i can never decide what sounds good cocktail-wise, so i typically wind up drinking Guinness 9 times out of 10. not that i’m complaining, mind you. 😉
definitely prefer the less sweet drinks, so non-girly I suppose. Best cocktail ever was in a bar in NY, called the Pink Floyd (after the bartender) with gin, cranberry juice, lemonade (American-style, not fizzy UK stuff) and a little sugar. Not sure if the pink makes it girly-girly or the gin makes it strong-girly. Have tried to recreate it, but no luck so far… guess I have to go back to New York! (ah well…)
There’s a time and a place for girly drinks. I prefer stuff like Margaritas and Scarlett O’Haras (Jack Daniels on the rocks with a splash of cranberry juice and a slice of lime — waaaaay yummy) to crap like Pina Colodas and Strawberry Daquiris. Actually, I got so incredibly f’ed up on daquiris one time that I generally stay away from them, now. It was similar to the time I drank a six plack of Zima (and three glasses of Sprite-and-Absolute) the evening after graduating from college…We would drop Jolly Ranchers in the bottom of the Zima bottle, so it would end up tasting vaguely like a boozy Shirley Temple. I can’t even think about Zima now. It took a long time for me to like Jolly Ranchers again, too. *shudder*
I like beer more than any other alcoholic beverage, I think. Right now I can’t get enough of Killian’s Irish Red and Newcastle Brown Ale. Every once in a while I’ll get a taste for lovely Guinness. I tried drinking a Coors Light (the preferred beverage of Southern Maryland In-Breds everywhere) the other day — UGH! Bear piss! Nasty!
Heh. I’ll stick to my “fancy, expensive-assed beer”, thankyouverymuch!
Well there’s no doubt about it, girls just like fruity stuff in their drinks. I’ve been to a couple of beerfests, and the beers with a hint of fruit in them are always the first to go by a wide margin. I am a guy, so I don’t like fruity drinks. Frozen drinks not included. I don’t like much sweet in my drink regardless. I can no longer tolerate sweetened liquors like schnappeses (esp. Goldschlager) and Southern Comfort. And don’t get me started on this super-sugared “hard lemonade”/schmirnoff ice nonsense. The sweetest drink I will have is a rum and vanilla coke (mmmm vanilla). Rum (not Corona) always makes me think of the tropical islands. The only other liquors I tolerate are whiskeys and gin. Vodka is too college-boheme for me. Moire, I think Killian’s Red is money, but I stand alone in my quest to irradicate Guinness and it’s creamy beer brethren from North America.
them’s fightin’ words, dan.
That Scarlett O’Hara sounds AWESOME. I’m going to try that.
The Snook’s last batch of home brew was based on the Newcastle Brown recipe! Heh, I should send you a bottle. 🙂
I have to say though, I suggested that the Snook make a variant of Killian’s (which I used to enjoy back in college) and his reply was not encouraging. Amongst beer connoisseurs, Killian’s has about as much respect as Coor’s Light. He will, however, join Brigita and I in defending Guinness to the death. 🙂
While I will occasionally drink a very girly daquari or slightly less girly mojito, I almost always drink beer or wine. Cocktails of choice are bloody mary’s or G&T’s. When it comes to beer, the hoppier the better; current fav’s are Sierra Nevada and Mirror Pond Pale.
Hmmm, what’s a mojito?
You’d probably like it; rum, simple syrup, mint, lime, and soda water (I think this is the combo). It’s very light and summery and easy to drink. They were very hip for a while; now that I’ve finally tried one, I’m guessing they are on the way (if not already) out of fashion. Diet Sierra Mist (much better than diet Sprite or Z-up, although they would work) with mint and lime makes a great virgin sugar free version.
