Yay, a Knitty Surprise! Universal Toe-Up Sock Formula. It looks a lot like the Double Trouble pattern I show my sock students, but I like that she explains using a provisional cast-on.

Important Note
This site features content going all the way back to 2000. The posts you’ll read reflect my views and writing style at the time. While I have gone back to clean up a few of them, I think it’s important not to sanitise too much. This site is a record of who I am and how I’ve grown. Any blog post written years ago may not reflect who I am today, nor how I would write about the same topic today.

This looks awfully like Wendy’s generic toe-up sock pattern that I have been using for over a couple of years now…
I guess it must just be a pretty common pattern idea, M-H. There’s nothing too novel about it; she doesn’t even suggest any stitch patterns.
You’re right, of course. It’s a method rather than a pattern, really.
