I just found Hal Higdon‘s excellent running site. He’s got dozens of training plans on there, including this Novice Half-Marathon that looks pretty promising. The Sydney Half-Marathon is next May, which means we’ve got about seven months to train. He suggests that you can stretch the plan out by doing each week twice, which should work out pretty well. In the more immediate future, there’s an 8K Fun Run on Australia Day. (Didn’t I say we were done for the summer? Sheesh.)

That’s exciting! I’m a big fan of the half-marathon. You train enough to get in great running shape, without feeling like you’re sacrificing all of your spare time training (like it sometimes feels with marathon training).
I used a Hal Higdon program to train for my first marathon and I was really pleased with the program and the results.
Good luck!

Do you know, I’m tempted to start training for a triathlon next year rather than run further. The cyc]ing is a doodle, but it’s swimming (up to 750 metres) that I find scary now.

We were discussing that too. The swim would definitely be the hardest part for me. And I’m reluctant to get into cycling, just because we don’t have bikes and it seems like it can be a really expensive hobby!
But hey, WELCOME BACK! Can’t wait to hear about your trip next weekend… 🙂
