Asexual Turkey Reproduction

Happy Thanksgiving! Did you know that turkeys can reproduce asexually? That utterly and completely blows my mind.

  1. And commercially farmed turkeys can’t reproduce naturally at all. Some lucky guy gets to collect turkey sperm and inseminate the females, because the birds are bred to be so huge that they are incapable of doing it the old fashioned way. Not sure if the reference is in “Fast Food Nation” or “The Ethics of What We Eat”. Probably not something you want to read before Thanksgiving. Sorry.

  2. Eh, we were planning on having chicken. 🙂
