Where’s Sam Jackson when you need him?
Y’all will probably chuckle at this story of a seven-foot python being pulled out of some Australian’s lady’s toilet. It’s your basic quirky “Believe it or not” type of fluff journalism. EXCEPT THIS STUFF REALLY HAPPENS. I remember not long after we moved out here, Ma Snook brought down some photos she’d taken at the Snook family residence. (It’s about five hours up the coast from Sydney.) There’s the garden, there’s the garage… and there are two seven-foot pythons MATING IN THE FRONT YARD. I nearly fainted. (For the curious, they were literally standing up on their tails and twisting around each other. It was so weird.) Oh, and then there’s also the time that little Kurt, Rodd’s nephew, went out to the rabbit pen and then reported to his incredulous grandmother that “there was a snake in there.” Nobody believed him until they went out to investigate. A massive python had squeezed through the chicken wire and proceeded to eat all the baby bunnies. They could clearly see the lumps along his body. Of course, he was then too fat to squeeze out again so he was just hanging out in there, digesting. I would just like to reiterate that these events happened at the same house where my beloved Snookums grew up, and were I personally have spent the night on several occasions. Sometimes I forget that once you get outside Sydney, AUSTRALIA IS FREAKING SCARY.

I’ve always been afraid to go there because I heard that there is giant tarantulas just walking around all over.. is that true?

LOL! In my 26 years living in Australia, I’ve never seen a tarantula in person. We get a few Huntsmans now and then, but it’s a pretty rare occurrence (plus, they’re not poisonous). It really depends where you live. I’d say you’d be pretty safe in most of the capital cities (Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, etc…).

funnel webs shit all over tarantulas – we have lots of funnel webs which are extremely dangerous – aggressive and deadly but no tarantulas- but don’t let me start on red back spiders either small but deadly and you would find these in your back yard – most kids do and youngsters- I had a nest of them in my inner city courtyard- in the middle of Sydney!!!!

I’ve seen funnel web stories on the news, but for the record I’ve never seen an actual poisonous spider in Sydney. I did have a run-in with a huntsman once though…

Ask Rodd to tell you his funnel web story. He thought, in his 3year old innocence, that it looked very ugly and he didn’t like it!! His poor parents almost collapsed on the spot.
He probably hasn’t told you because you’d be too terrified to visit ever again.
Learn to love pythons. We now have them(yes more than one) living happily in the shed where they delight in tormenting Ray by pushing boxes of neatly stored tools etc. off the shelves. They’re not hard to like when you see them at close quarters and realize how beautiful they are…seriously!

I was chased by a funnel web when I was gardening, I swear it was up on it’s back legs coming for me and I was on my bum scooting backwards as fast as I could, not a pretty sight….
and..hey…we don’t have bears and cougars, at least in the Australian bush you’re not in danger of being EATEN (unless you’re a rabbit..or you meet a really big snake…)
