It’s a long shot, I know, but do any of you guys in Sydney have a recommendation for a locksmith? We need to get the locks at the new place changed, and I’m trying to avoid picking a name at random out of the phone book.

Important Note
This site features content going all the way back to 2000. The posts you’ll read reflect my views and writing style at the time. While I have gone back to clean up a few of them, I think it’s important not to sanitise too much. This site is a record of who I am and how I’ve grown. Any blog post written years ago may not reflect who I am today, nor how I would write about the same topic today.

My friend’s dad (also a family friend) is a locksmith. He’s called the Great Houdini. (His real name is Laurie.) I’ve never used him personally, but my mum has and I don’t remember her saying anything bad about him. I’m sorry I can’t give you a better evaluation though.
The locksmiths in Booth St Annandale – they seem to have several names. http://www.aussieweb.com.au/directory/directory.aspx?cid=1670&lid=21043 I’ve had them do work for me and so has Sandra. Efficient and no more expensive than anyone else. 96601811
There is a great locksmith on Enmore Road in Enmore not far from the Enmore Theatre (but the other side of Enmore Road) Southern Cross Locksmiths
115 Enmore Rd Newtown NSW 2042
ph: (02) 9519 5044
Also, these guys are good – but they have a lot of commercial business which may make them harder to track down.

Thanks everybody!
We had a not so brilliant experience with Southern Cross Locksmiths, but maybe it just depends who they have on duty after hours. (Stupidly locked ourselves out, and admittedly the lock was a bit sticky, but it took him ages and he left a mess!)
