iPhone

Hooray! I finally got my iPhone today! My number hasn’t been ported over from my old carrier yet, so I can’t use it to make any actual phone calls til that happens. But we’ve got it on the house wireless and we’re having a play. Snookums is sitting next to me watching “Jesus is my friend” on YouTube.

For those that have one, any good app recommendations? I’ve got Facebook, RTM, and AroundMe. What else is good? Any usage hints or tips?

  1. I don’t have an iphone, but I hear about Shazam a lot on podcasts. It sounds like a bunch of fun.

  3. I like Tangram. I can’t remember what we called it in elementary, but I don’t think it was that. You’ll know as soon as you see it.

  4. Seconding Tangram. MotionX Poker (shake the phone to roll the dice) and Fieldrunners (tower defense game) are a lot of fun as well.

    If you use NetNewsWire (RSS reader), the iPhone app is a must-have. I’ve got a couple of other good apps for local movie times, restaurant picks, etc., but I suspect they’re USA-centric.

  5. Facebook, TwitterFon, and Wikipanion are indispensable. I use the Jaadu VNC client a lot; same with Amazon app and Shazam. Apple’s Remote app is good for impressing people at a party. My favorite game is a simple one– Cube Runner.

  6. If you’re weather-obsessed, OzWeather. It gets the feed (including radar) directly from BOM, so you know what’s really happening.

    I’m also obsessive about Bejewelled2.

  7. There’s one knitting app, StitchMinder. I’ve downloaded it, but I haven’t had too much of a play with it yet. (It’s a freebie) I have a weather one, too, but it’s a different one than Julie’s. I like Weightbot, too. You can track your weight daily, and set goals if you’re into that kind of thing.

  8. Remote =Cannot Live without. Controls iTunes over the wireless network. Both Steph and I have it on our iPhones and we use it constantly.

    Check out iTrail as well. Good run/cycle/walk GPS tracker that integrates with Google maps to give you where you ran, altitude, speed graphs etc. Pretty cool.

  12. i like midomi better than shazam, b/c it let’s you hum or sing songs to figure them out as well (which is also a fun game to play). other faves of mine are flashlight, ap mobile news, digg’s shovel, pandora, bigoven, tapdefense, ifishing (free ed.), shakespeare (free and has all of his plays, great for reading on the bus, in bed, etc.), word warp, zippo lighter (for concerts) labyrinth (free ed.), fs5 touch hockey (free air hockey game), the weather channel, and topple.
