  • The Book Group is gone!

I had another of my periodic urges to organise today so I finally killed off the old Book Group forum. It was fun for a while but with projects like that folks inevitably lose enthusiasm. I never really liked the look or functionality of that forum software anyway. (I’ve got it all backed up in case anyone should need to refer to those discussions in the future.) We can still do group reads though and just discuss them in the regular weblog comments. I’ve just picked up The Life of Pi, which I saw highly recommended on a couple blogs. Anybody interested in reading it along with me?

  • Valentine Abuse

I checked my server statistics today and my eyes nearly fell out. Fully one-third of the files I’ve served this month are the Valentine. People are still abusing it. (A pox on all the stupid teenagers who hang out in web forums!) My .htaccess file now contains about 25 different domains which are forbidden from accessing it. As a last resort, I’ve also removed the big jpeg completely and it’s now offered as a zip file instead. At least they can’t steal that.

  • PW Blog

At long last, I’ve managed to import the posts from my very first weblog ever! What, you thought w-g was it? Think again. I actually started blogging in September 2000 on the PurpleWeasels.org site. That blog didn’t last long but I’ve always wanted to incorporate the posts into my Archives here so as to provide an uninterrupted and comprehensive overview of my entire “blogging career”. And today, I did it! Of course, 90% of them are just dead links pointing to stories about Notre Dame and campus life, but there are a few gems in there (including a couple proto-posts from our own Brigita). Just go to the Archives and click on the first month. Have fun…

  • Poll

New Poll: Would you send a guy flowers? If you are a guy, what would you think of a chick that sent you flowers? I’m kinda stressing. (Shh! Don’t mention this around the Snook til after tomorrow.)

Update: Yeah, as most of you guessed, I sent the Snook flowers for our anniversary. I specified something “manly” and “small enough to carry on public transport.” The arrangement ended up being a couple orange gerberas surrounded by gumnuts, grevillia, and some funny small orchids. (Mostly Australian native flowers for you foreign types.) He liked it a lot, though I don’t think I’m going to make a habit of it. I think he got a little embarrassed carrying it home. 🙂

  • CouchCam

Whoa. Has anybody else noticed that CouchCam has gone, like, infrared? I actually think it looks kinda cool. But no, we haven’t done that on purpose…

  • Server crash

My server had a crash today so don’t freak out if your comments get dated, say, in January. I’ll fix it. 🙂

  • Connected

Hooray! The Snook e-mailed to say that our home internet connection has been fixed. Regular posting will resume shortly!

  • Internet issues

Sorry for the extended silence. We’re having some problems with our home net connection and I can’t post. (The nerdy explanation: Whenever we go to a page that requires HTTP authentication – i.e. a password – the proxy dies and we get locked out of the site for ten minutes.) So yeah, the Snook’s working on it. Rest assured that I’ve got a huge backlog of stuff to discuss, including last night’s TV special: “The Micheal Jackson Interview – The Footage You Weren’t Meant to See.” (My quick two-second summary: “Just because Martin Bashir is a bit of a wanker doesn’t make Jackson any less freaky.”) I know you’re all breathless with anticipation…

  • Peace Rally

Holy crap! This French news site linked to my pictures from the peace rally.

  • Domain name change

Please note if you were using the old web-goddess.co.uk URL that that domain name has finally expired. You can update your bookmarks to web-goddess.org. Thanks!
